U.S. History of Colonial Domination
It’s well known that U.S. agencies like the Pentagon, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Security Agency (NSA), and others engage in covert operations in other countries. The ruling U.S. imperialist class uses these agencies to orchestrate disinformation campaigns, interfere in elections, stage political coups, and conduct assassinations across the globe.
For decades, U.S. imperialists have used these American-tax-payer funded agencies, in collaboration with corporations and the military, to exert their neo-colonial control over oppressed nations. Covert operations are partly how the U.S. continues to subordinate the Philippines to its interests more than 78 years after granting it independence on paper.
The Purposeful Disinformation Campaign
The most recent clandestine operation conducted against the Filipino people involved spreading misinformation about the Chinese-developed COVID-19 vaccine. Referred to as Sinovac, it comprised the bulk of the Philippines COVID-19 vaccine supply. U.S. imperialists deployed a small army of Department of Defense agents to spread lies and Sinophobic conspiracy “theories” about the proven-safe-and-effective vaccine. They flooded Filipino cyberspace with disinformation using American-based social media companies like Facebook, Youtube, and (Twitter) X, which are the primary news sources for the majority of Filipino people.
The goal of this secret, manipulative propaganda campaign was to amplify the Filipino people’s mistrust and discrimination against their Chinese neighbours. Obviously, this had the additional impact of affecting the Filipino people’s willingness to get the vaccine, which exacerbated and perpetuated the COVID-19 health crises, leading to the unnecessary deaths of thousands of Filipinos, and contributing to the overall destabilization of the Philippines.
Stoking Anti-China Sentiments
The effects of this clandestine affair continue to impact the Filipino masses. According to the Philippine puppet government’s numbers, about a third of Filipinos haven’t received even one dose of the vaccine, with the proportion of unvaccinated people skyrocketing in poor and rural communities. Additionally, we’ve seen a rise in anti-Chinese sentiment and a weaponization of the Filipino consciousness against China. The overall goal of the U.S. militarists and tech-billionaires plot is to politically and psychologically prep the Filipino masses for an inter-imperialist U.S.-China war. U.S. imperialists plan on using the Filipino people as cannon fodder for their own benefit.
Undoubtedly, Imperialist forces will continue to conduct a range covert operations in the Philippines in order to accomplish their destructive, profit-seeking goals. It is up to the Filipino working masses, their National Democratic organizations, and their allies across the world to expose and counter these imperialist actions.
Ultimately, foreign imperialist interference (whether from the U.S., China, Canada, Japan, Australia, etc.) will continue in the Philippines until the Filipino masses complete their National Democratic revolution, freeing themselves from imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism.
